Community 6x11 Reaction | " Modern Espionage". This episode was great. It felt like the most Community episode of season 6 so far and NOT just because of paintballs. Why did it take so long? Frankie is so efficient that when she says "bye forever Starburns" in this episode, we never see him again for the rest of the show. Which, admittedly, is 2 and a half episodes, but still, good detail.
"Let's have a hand for Vicki's mother everybody." 😁 I liked that this episode got to use a lot of the supporting cast. Good use of the Todd character, since the character had been a member of the armed forces. Two more episodes to go. :)
I still think there are good episodes before this, like Queer studies, the Honda episode or the first episode with Elroy with the VR :). But this one was awesome. Especially since if anybody asked me if there should be another paintball episode, I'd probably say no, as I'd feell it would be too much. But it was well written and shot (ha!), made sense, had a lot of fun characters, and the Winter Soldier elevator scene was cherry on top
I did a quick check on Magnitude (who's character I extremely disliked btw lol so idc about him being gone) and apparently in 2015-2016 he was part of the main cast of a show called Galavant. I actually missed Leonard :(. He was top notch. Honestly, I would've loved a Vaughn cameo - he's hilarious (I will never NOT like the 'you're like the exact opposite of an antioxidant, cause you're toxic Britta' line). I do really like this episode because it feels true to Community. BUT, I hate Frankie. In all the episodes, but especially in this one. I once read a comment that I can't forget because it said that she's insulting the viewer for liking these paintball episodes etc. by stating that it's dumb, they're idiots, and have them literally act like babies. That comment stuck with me. And to be honest, I don't really get Jeff listening to her not wanting paintball. She hasn't been there that long and he's listening like a puppy lol, telling everyone to not do paintball 'for Frankie'. It feels unlike Jeff. He always wants his time to shine as the MVP. The fact that he's playing when he realizes everyone's participating after all and he can't stop them despite pleading to them, now THAT does feel like Jeff.
i know what you mean. He really didn't have more than one line per episode he was in, i just really felt like they should have done more with him. But I did love me some POP POPPPP!!!! lol. Yeah i for sure also feel like Frankie is a meta character exactly how you explain. I got to say though this paintball episode was super fun and didn't reel old or washed ya know. I appreciate that after the big hand episode where they were almost forcing Abed's flashbacks etc.
The thing about Seasons 5 and 6 it's that they were not trying to feel like the golden times of Community - and yeah, it feels weird, weirder than S4, upon first watch, and you may not like them that much, but you got respect that: assuming that, yeah, everything was different, half of the original cast was gone, they were on streaming, they didn't have access to the set pieces, the budget were probably lower than ever, etc. There was no sense in trying to recapture the old magic back, so they rolled with the punches instead and opted for making something new, that even the showrunners for S4 had the balls to do. I remeber not liking S5 and S6 that much at first, but they are definetly growers: the more you watch them, more you like them, while S4 is the opposite - the more you watch it, more the flaws become apparent.
I feel like the year network break would have helped me but going straight season to season each week just makes it harder to NOT try to compare IT to what I just watched. I’ll rewatch it at some point. Maybe a watch party ;)
